Buying French property guide

The VEF service

From finding the right property in the right area to understanding the language and the legal process, everything to do with buying a house in France is likely to be a new and different experience for an overseas buyer.

Buying property anywhere in the world can be a daunting task and if the country in which you choose to buy is not your own then there are additional stresses built into the process. If your knowledge of the language and legal system is lacking, then the stresses have the potential to become major problems.

More than 21 years ago I bought a property in France, choosing it was hard but was a pleasure, purchasing it was a nightmare. VEF was set up to save other people enduring the nightmares that I had. My staff, my partner offices in France and myself have helped more than 15,500 people buy property in France. We have built the high reputation of the company by offering the best levels of service from the moment you contact us right through the purchasing process until the keys of the property are in your hands. Our London and Dublin-based sales advisers, our VEF-trained partner offices in France, our in-house language and law team and our financial and currency partners give all the assistance, expertise and assurance necessary to ensure that the whole buying experience is efficient, smooth and safe.

From the following information you will be able to see the difference between buying through VEF and endeavouring to 'go it alone'. Once you read this information I hope it will be clear to you that we offer a really high level of service designed to protect your interests throughout. VEF receive no money from our partner offices in connection with your purchase. This allows us to be completely unbiased in everything that we do. Anyone who receives a shared commission for selling the house may well not be there to protect only your interests - they are working for the vendor as well! Our fee is £4,850 + VAT or 8,434 euros and is included in the all-inclusive price we display on our website.

It is worth noting that this fee is not payable until you have found a property. We charge a fee so that we can offer you the level of service we know to be essential for buying property in France.

I hope the following pages will help you understand what is involved in buying a property in France. I have highlighted throughout the process the experience for the individual buyer and the difference for a VEF client. The choice is yours!
